About Us

What We Do

Anthropos Games is a small, indie partnership inhabiting Austin, Texas, and serving tabletop gamers all over the world. Our goal is to design and support a handful of role-playing games – each with a unique mechanic, realistic societies and ecologies, and a progressive perspective on the human experience.

We strive to make games for creative, inclusive gamers who crave environments outside the typical Euro-centric fantasy worlds and late-capitalist sci-fi dystopias; who look for games with smart tactics, room for a good story, and immersive worlds; and who want to be a part of an inclusive, forward-moving community in the #ttrpg world.

We pickle each game we design in progressive critical theory and pepper every page we write with ways to expand the community of gamers. And we keep our eyes and ears open for areas in which we can improve (feel free to point them out).

These games are for everyone, but we aspire for them to be something a little more than escapist daydreaming.

Calvin Johns

Owner and lead designer Calvin holds a PhD in Anthropology from the University of Texas at Austin, where he studied alternate reality games and other large-scale forms of play.

Deep down inside, he wishes video games didn’t give him FOMO. Calvin lights up a mean freestyle Frisbee.

Allyson M. Holley

Project manager, graphic designer, and audio engineer, Allyson recently stepped on board to help us get stuff done. And it worked.

Allyson is from Texas and studied sound engineering in New Mexico before returning to the homeland to pursue creative endeavors professionally.

Rob Ware

Rob is a writer from Salt Lake City who recently completed his MFA. He is an avid cyclist, an accomplished editor, and a newcomer to the pleasures of pipe smoking.

He lives with a heart on his sleeve and a light in his eye.

Philanthroposy

Beyond the games we design and worlds we build, the money we take in goes out to causes we believe in.
